{"id":15331,"date":"2025-07-09T07:24:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T13:24:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ouf.jhy.mybluehost.me\/?p=15331"},"modified":"2025-07-09T12:44:38","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T18:44:38","slug":"wittner-25m-debt-australia-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/footwearmagazine.com\/?p=15331","title":{"rendered":"Wittner Enters Voluntary Administration With $25 Million in Liabilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"my-0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wittner.com.au\/?srsltid=AfmBOoofX2f9x_AHY6ju-gg13V94LsrB-Ijs4arMm_VgB6ZVOwD7LRO4\">Wittner<\/a> is facing a major financial crisis as it enters voluntary administration with millions owed to creditors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"my-0\">Australian footwear brand <a href=\"https:\/\/wittner.com.au\/?srsltid=AfmBOoofX2f9x_AHY6ju-gg13V94LsrB-Ijs4arMm_VgB6ZVOwD7LRO4\">Wittner<\/a> is now under voluntary administration, with recent filings revealing $25 million in debts to a range of creditors. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deloitte.com\/au\/en\/services\/consulting-financial\/services\/black-ink.html\">Deloitte Turnaround &amp; Restructuring partners<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deloitte.com\/au\/en\/about\/people\/profiles.saalgeri+196f3b11.html\">Sal Algeri<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deloitte.com\/au\/en\/about\/people\/profiles.david-orr+e74291fc.html\">David Orr<\/a> have been appointed as administrators to oversee the process.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"major-debts-and-creditors\" class=\"mb-2 mt-6 text-base font-[500] first:mt-0 md:text-lg dark:font-[475] [hr+&#038;]:mt-4\"><strong>Major Debts and Creditors<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"my-0\">ASIC documents obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ragtrader.com.au\/news\/wittner-owes-25-million-in-liabilities\">Ragtrader<\/a> show:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"marker:text-textOff list-disc\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"my-0\"><strong>$13 million<\/strong> owed to <a href=\"https:\/\/hilcocapital.com\/\">Hilco Capital<\/a>, Wittner\u2019s owner and the new owner of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cue.com\/\">Cue<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.veronikamaine.com.au\/\">Veronika Maine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"my-0\"><strong>Nearly $1.5 million<\/strong>&nbsp;in loans to related parties.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"my-0\"><strong>$3.65 million<\/strong>&nbsp;owed to the Australian Taxation Office.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"my-0\"><strong>$45,163<\/strong>&nbsp;in payroll tax.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"my-0\"><strong>$6.8 million<\/strong>&nbsp;to trade creditors, including landlords, utilities, technology providers, suppliers, and banks.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"my-0\"><strong>$965,000<\/strong>&nbsp;in employee entitlements, including $392,000 in annual leave and $366,000 in long service leave.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"my-0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wittner.com.au\/?srsltid=AfmBOoofX2f9x_AHY6ju-gg13V94LsrB-Ijs4arMm_VgB6ZVOwD7LRO4\">Wittner<\/a> entered administration with <strong>$6.4 million in stock<\/strong>, just over&nbsp;<strong>$400,000 in cash<\/strong>, and more than&nbsp;<strong>$900,000 in rental deposits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"money-owed-to-wittner\" class=\"mb-2 mt-6 text-base font-[500] first:mt-0 md:text-lg dark:font-[475] [hr+&#038;]:mt-4\"><strong>Money Owed to Wittner<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"my-0\">At the time of entering administration, <a href=\"https:\/\/wittner.com.au\/?srsltid=AfmBOoofX2f9x_AHY6ju-gg13V94LsrB-Ijs4arMm_VgB6ZVOwD7LRO4\">Wittner<\/a> owed <strong>$318,303.44<\/strong> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myer.com.au\/\">Myer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.davidjones.com\/\">David Jones<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theiconic.com.au\/\">The Iconic<\/a>. The current status of these receivables is not confirmed.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"brand-background\" class=\"mb-2 mt-6 text-base font-[500] first:mt-0 md:text-lg dark:font-[475] [hr+&#038;]:mt-4\"><strong>Brand Background<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"my-0\">Founded in 1912 as Australia\u2019s first mail-order footwear business, <a href=\"https:\/\/wittner.com.au\/?srsltid=AfmBOoofX2f9x_AHY6ju-gg13V94LsrB-Ijs4arMm_VgB6ZVOwD7LRO4\">Wittner<\/a> now operates:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"marker:text-textOff list-disc\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"my-0\">Over 20 branded stores in Australia and New Zealand<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"my-0\">More than 25 concession stores in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.davidjones.com\/\">David Jones<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myer.com.au\/\">Myer<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"my-0\">A strong e-commerce platform, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myer.com.au\/\">Myer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.davidjones.com\/\">David Jones<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theiconic.com.au\/\">The Iconic<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"my-0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wittner.com.au\/?srsltid=AfmBOoofX2f9x_AHY6ju-gg13V94LsrB-Ijs4arMm_VgB6ZVOwD7LRO4\">Wittner<\/a> has a large customer base, comprising over 300,000 Wittner Co. Rewards members and more than 400,000 social media followers.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"company-and-administrator-statements\" class=\"mb-2 mt-6 text-base font-[500] first:mt-0 md:text-lg dark:font-[475] [hr+&#038;]:mt-4\"><strong>Company and Administrator Statements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"my-0\"><strong>Wittner<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ragtrader.com.au\/news\/wittner-owes-25-million-in-liabilities\">said<\/a> cost pressures drove the decision to enter administration:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"my-0\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/wittner.com.au\/?srsltid=AfmBOoofX2f9x_AHY6ju-gg13V94LsrB-Ijs4arMm_VgB6ZVOwD7LRO4\">Wittner<\/a> is a heritage brand with a rich history of over 100 years in the Australian footwear market,\u201d the company shared in a statement. \u201cOver the last twelve months we have achieved strong growth in online sales, and significant sales growth from the expansion of sites across the Myer network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"my-0\">\u201cHowever, the growth in sales has been eroded by cost pressures from rising wages and occupancy costs, and more recently challenging trading conditions and supply-chain disruptions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"my-0\">\u201cWe have invested in our range and teams over the last twelve months and remain committed to the Wittner business.
