Baffin<\/a> is entering a new ownership era with Royer<\/a>, the Canadian maker of work and military footwear, acquiring the Stoney Creek<\/a> brand from Canada Goose.<\/a> The move places a respected extreme weather boot specialist inside a Canadian footwear group with a deep manufacturing background. At the same time, it preserves the Baffin name, team and day to day operations.<\/p>\n

Canadian expertise aligns<\/h3>\n

Baffin will operate as Baffin Footwear Inc. within the Royer Group of Companies. Royer and Baffin will remain separate brands. However, the partnership joins two businesses built around technical product, durability and demanding use cases. Royer has supplied workers across mining, oil and gas, construction, metallurgy and heavy industry since 1934. For Baffin, the ownership change is less about a visual rebrand than operational continuity and deeper investment. The company says its leadership team, employees, customer relationships and work in Stoney Creek, Ontario, will remain in place. Retail partners, suppliers and customers should see no interruption to product, service or everyday business.<\/p>\n

That continuity is important because Baffin\u2019s strength has always been its credibility in environments where footwear is essential equipment. Its boots have earned a reputation through polar expeditions, outdoor work and industrial use. The new arrangement keeps that focus intact while adding Royer\u2019s experience in technical manufacturing and industrial distribution.<\/p>\n

A legacy stays local<\/h3>\n

Baffin was founded by the Hubner family in 1979. Over more than four decades, it developed from a Canadian factory into an internationally recognized name in cold weather, outdoor and industrial footwear. The brand\u2019s Real World Testing approach has been central to that identity. It places products in severe conditions rather than relying on laboratory claims alone.<\/p>\n

The transaction also marks a leadership transition. Founder Paul Hubner is leaving following the completion of the deal, ending a run of more than 45 years with the company. Although his departure closes a defining chapter for Baffin, the connection to the founding family remains strong through Mark Hubner. Mark has been named Managing Director of Baffin Footwear Inc.<\/p>\n

Mark Hubner will lead the business alongside the existing leadership group. That decision gives Baffin valuable stability. The people closest to the product, customers and technical standards remain involved, which is often the difference between a successful acquisition and one that slowly dilutes a specialist brand\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n

Canada Goose refocuses<\/h3>\n

Canada Goose acquired Baffin in 2018 for 32.5 million Canadian dollars as it moved into footwear and expanded its lifestyle offer beyond outerwear. During that period, Baffin operated as a separate business. It provided expertise and infrastructure as Canada Goose developed footwear under its own brand.<\/p>\n

The sale now lets Canada Goose streamline its operating model and concentrate resources on growth areas within its core brand. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. Notably, the deal is expected to close in August subject to customary conditions.<\/p>\n

For Baffin, a shift from luxury outerwear ownership to a specialist technical footwear owner feels strategically logical. Royer\u2019s focus on work, military and protective footwear has more in common with Baffin\u2019s technical roots than a fashion led parent company. That alignment may create room for product development and manufacturing knowledge. In addition, it may lead to international growth without pressuring the brand to abandon its core customer.<\/p>\n

Product comes first<\/h3>\n

The footwear industry is crowded with brands using outdoor styling as a fashion cue. Yet Baffin\u2019s opportunity is different. Its heritage is built on function first product designed for cold, wet and hazardous conditions. That gives it an authentic position as consumers continue seeking boots that can handle real weather. At the same time, these boots fit into an everyday wardrobe.<\/p>\n

Royer has stated that it intends to invest in Baffin and grow the brand around the world. Its manufacturing capability could help Baffin strengthen its industrial and workwear presence, while the brand\u2019s established outdoor reputation gives the group a valuable link to expedition, winter and lifestyle markets.<\/p>\n

The challenge will be to expand without compromising the design and testing principles that built Baffin\u2019s following. The strongest technical footwear brands grow by protecting their credibility. New colors, collaborations or wider distribution can work, but the product must still perform when the conditions turn difficult.<\/p>\n
