Iconic footwear brand Dr. Martens has launched a recycled leather collection in partnership with Gen Phoenix, as well as a new resale platform called ReWair. The Genix Nappa collection features three classic Dr. Martens styles – the 1460 Lace-Up Boot, 1461 3-Eye Shoe, and 2976 Chelsea Boot – all crafted from reclaimed leather that would have otherwise ended up in landfills.
Gen Phoenix, a pioneer in sustainable recycled leather, Dr. Martens has been able to create a soft yet durable material that maintains the quality and integrity of their products. The collection ranges in price from £140 to £170 (approximately $177 to $215), offering consumers a stylish and eco-friendly option.
Alongside the recycled leather collection Dr. Matens’ has also launched its own resale platform, ReWair, in collaboration with Archive. This innovative platform allows customers to purchase used boots, shoes, and bags that have been repaired and restored to their former glory. Dr. Martens is actively working towards its goal of providing sustainable end-of-life options for all of its products by 2040.
These launches are just the latest steps in Dr. Martens’ ongoing sustainability journey. The brand has set ambitious targets, aiming to use 100% sustainable materials in its footwear production and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. With leather being a key material for the company, sourcing traceable, deforestation-free, and regenerative leather is a top priority.
