Maison Margiela is marking the 20th anniversary of its Tokyo Ebisu flagship with a limited-edition zine featuring a hand-drawn manga by Takehito Moriizumi. The project forms a new chapter of MaisonMargiela/folders, extending the store’s history into an illustrated narrative.
In a company announcement, the house says The Factory at Night takes inspiration from the building’s transformation from the former Kyoden electronics factory into Maison Margiela Tokyo Ebisu at 2-8-13. The manga tells that story through science fiction.
The zine is being distributed through selected Ebisu newsstands and the store, with a digital version shared globally through Dropbox. That mix gives the anniversary both a neighbourhood presence and a wider audience.
Rather than treating the address simply as a retail backdrop, the project makes its industrial past the subject of a new artwork. It continues the folders format through a specific place and an artist’s interpretation of its history.
