REEF expanded its Fanning franchise on April 9, 2026, with four new styles, marking 21 years of the sandal that built the brand’s identity around a built in bottle opener. The new models bring the total Fanning lineup to six core styles, available now at reef.com.

21 Years of the Fanning

The Fanning launched in 2005 in collaboration with three time world surfing champion Mick Fanning, and became a category icon through a combination of performance driven comfort and a signature feature: a bottle opener molded into the rubber outsole. 

The sandal’s 21st year gives it a birthday that REEF is leaning into directly, with a new campaign titled “The Fanning Turns 21” featuring surfers Billy Kemper, Makoa Ho, Mason Ho, and Noah Beschen, developed in partnership with creative agency Party Land. Three campaign films, Idea Guy, Is This It?, and Lost Tourist, are available on REEF’s YouTube channel.

Four New Styles

The four new additions and their prices at reef.com are:

  • Fanning + at $75, featuring REEFlex EVA cushioning, molded memory foam straps with shockpads, and an oversized translucent airbag heel for all day support
  • Fanning + Slide at $75, translating the same cushioning into a slip on format with a non marking rubber outsole and signature bottle opener
  • Fanning H2O at $40, introducing fully molded, water friendly, quick dry construction for beach and water use
  • Fanning Slide H2O at $40, applying the same water ready build to a slide silhouette

Heritage and Innovation

Each new model preserves the original Fanning’s bottle opener and overall design language while adding updated comfort technologies suited to a broader range of activities. The original Fanning continues in the lineup at $60, giving the six style franchise a clear price architecture from entry level to premium. The H2O styles extend the franchise into water sports and pool use, a market segment where the existing Fanning had no dedicated offering.
