WHOOP announced a research collaboration with the University of Queensland in an October 29 post, describing plans to explore relationships between physical and cognitive performance.

The company said the project combines WHOOP physiological data with measures including chess move quality, decision speed and performance under pressure.

WHOOP also described a visit that week by Dr David Smerdon, a chess grandmaster, behavioral economist and University of Queensland collaborator. At its headquarters, Smerdon played 25 employees simultaneously in a chess exhibition.
