Birkenstock opened its first Swiss store on April 14, 2026, in Zurich’s historic Old Town, the brand’s 30th owned retail location in Europe and its first permanent physical presence in Switzerland. The 70 square meter store sits at Storchengasse 23, a cobblestone street in the city center.
The store design
The interior draws directly from Swiss materials and building traditions: end grain wood tiles, pinewood displays built around an untreated rock, and darkened wooden logs referencing traditional alpine construction methods. The front space reflects Switzerland’s outdoor landscape. Meanwhile, the back shifts to a more intimate interior zone. This is a deliberate transition from outside to inside that runs through the store’s spatial concept.
What’s on offer
The Zurich store carries Birkenstock’s full signature range of sandals, clogs, and closed shoes alongside seasonal collections, the Professionals line, shoe care products, and the Care Essentials range. Fittingly, the ZÜRICH silhouette is part of the in store product universe. This connects one of the brand’s historic models to the city now hosting its Swiss debut.
Part of a broader DTC push
The Zurich opening continues Birkenstock’s steady expansion of owned European retail, giving the brand direct control over the customer experience in a high footfall, high income market. Switzerland combines strong domestic purchasing power with significant tourist traffic, and Storchengasse 23 is positioned to serve.
The store operates Monday through Saturday, 10:00am – 7:00pm.
