Nike introduced the 22nd Doernbecher Freestyle collection on October 16, with six patient-designed shoes making their auction debut in Portland that day. A U.S. retail release through SNKRS and select stores is planned for this winter.

Each silhouette is appearing in the program for the first time. The lineup brings together the Air Max 1/97, Structure Plus, Air Force 1 Mid, ACG Rufus, GT Future and Air Jordan 11 Low IE.

Six designs with individual stories

The patient-designers are Owen William Flint, Aurora Loss, Royce Short, Charlye Cosgrove, Kamoryn Marshall and Avery Wilson. Working with Nike volunteers, they translated personal interests and experiences into footwear details, according to Nike’s announcement.

The range spans running, basketball and lifestyle forms, giving each participant a different foundation while keeping their individual decisions central.

Auction first, retail later

The program supports OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Nike says the partnership has raised more than $44 million since 2004 and that all profits from this collection benefit the OHSU Foundation for Doernbecher.

The October 16 auction marked the debut, not the general retail launch. For shoppers, the next step is the winter U.S. release.
