Tomo Koizumi’s signature color and creative drama meet Nike’s performance DNA in a women’s sneaker that invites everyone to personalize and reimagine style.
Art, Athletics, and Japanese Influence
The Nike x Tomo Koizumi Air Superfly collection is making its debut after months of anticipation, marking a powerful creative partnership between Nike and one of Japan’s most lauded emerging designers. Tomo Koizumi, famous for his exuberant ruffles and vivid palette, draws inspiration from Japanese manga and the bold spirit of elite women athletes in reimagining this retro running silhouette.
He describes the Air Superfly as “a beautiful canvas for both artistic and athletic expression.”
“My vision was to create a distinctive, versatile silhouette that merges running-inspired design, personalization, and evocative materials and colors to allow the shoe to take on different personalities depending on how women want to style it that day,” Tomo said.
Customization and Performance Details
What sets Tomo’s Air Superfly apart:
- A bright, color-shifting lenticular upper that changes with the light and draws the eye from every angle.
- Three interchangeable Swooshes—including multicolor and black ruffle options—let wearers add flair and texture.
- Multiple included lace sets allow for more or less volume and contrast.
- The multicolor outsole with distinctive green dots nods to classic 2000s track spikes.
- Tomo’s signature logo appears on the sockliner—marking the design as wearable art.
This retooled Air Superfly is both technical and head-turning, encouraging each athlete to make their pair truly their own.
Celebrating Athletes Breaking Boundaries
The collection’s campaign is a tribute to powerful femininity, featuring three top sprinters:
- Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, three-time Olympic gold medalist and 10-time world champion
- Masai Russell, Tokyo’s gold medalist in the 100m hurdles
- Arie Aoki, Japan’s rising star
All three embody the idea of self-expression and high performance, just like Tomo’s reworked silhouette.
“Athletes like Shelly-Ann redefine what it means to be unapologetically stylish and feminine while also being fiercely strong and performing at the highest level. It inspires me to see how they can both push their athletic limits and express themselves through fashion, breaking boundaries in sport and self-expression,” Tomo said.
How to Get the Release
The Nike x Tomo Koizumi Air Superfly will be released September 19 at Dover Street Market Ginza and select Japanese retailers, followed by a global launch September 20 on SNKRS and through select partners worldwide.
Nike’s collaboration with Tomo Koizumi proves that the best sportswear is also expressive, crafted for individuality, and connected to the stories, dreams, and energy of women breaking barriers everywhere
