Nike and Skims are introducing the NikeSkims Rift Mesh, the first sneaker from their partnership and a reworked take on Nike’s split toe Air Rift. The shoe extends the collaboration from bodywear and apparel into footwear, framed as a unisex, lifestyle first model.
New Collaboration Chapter
This launch marks the first dedicated sneaker under the NikeSkims banner, rather than a simple color refresh of an existing style. The choice to rework the Air Rift ties the project into the model’s 30 year legacy and the broader return of 90s performance silhouettes in lifestyle contexts.
Design and Color Story
The NikeSkims Rift Mesh keeps the Air Rift’s signature split toe and strap system but pares the upper back into a light, breathable mesh. The shoe has a slim, minimal shape that fits Skims’ sleek style and uses details from Nike’s archive. Early photos show neutral colours designed to work with everyday outfits rather than loud, sporty shades.
Fit and Feel
Functionally, the Rift platform offers a flexible sole, split toe stability, and a lightweight upper suited to short commutes, everyday wear. The collaboration positions the shoe as a crossover option that sits between fashion and performance, tapping into demand for slimmer, more minimal silhouettes after years of bulkier sneaker trends.
For Nike collectors, Skims fans, and casual sneaker fans, the NikeSkims Rift Mesh reads as a test case: using a niche cult model to anchor a larger product story around comfort, body ware styling, and archive re interpretation.
