PUMA and McLaren Racing have added the ML Speedcat Mid JH to a James Hunt collection that revisits the 1976 Formula 1 champion’s style on and off the track. The limited-edition sneaker sits alongside racing jackets, graphic tees and caps.
The footwear draws on a detail from Hunt’s time in Formula 1. McLaren says he cut the toes from his racing boots to make more room in the cockpit; the new Speedcat is presented as a modern reference to that adaptation. McLaren’s official product page lists a lightweight build and carbon heel counter.
PUMA first presented the collection at McLaren’s Designed to Race: Front Row event at the McLaren Technology Centre ahead of London Fashion Week. The PUMA Media Hub announcement was dated September 17 and said the collection would arrive October 19; McLaren’s October 19 style guide spotlights the Speedcat Mid JH among the release’s key pieces.
The collaboration connects the Speedcat’s motorsport identity with a specific piece of Hunt’s history, while the apparel extends that reference across everyday fanwear. The timing also marks 50 years since Hunt won the 1976 world championship with McLaren.
