Birkenstock opened its first Osaka store on April 3 at 2-8-28 Shinsaibashisuji, Chuo-ku, one of Japan’s largest street level retail spaces. This marks a new milestone in the brand’s Japan expansion and its first permanent presence in the country’s second largest city.

The two floor location in the Shinsaibashi shopping district brings Birkenstock’s full product universe to Osaka, from its core sandal collection to the premium 1774 line.

Two Floors In Shinsaibashi

The store occupies one of Japan’s largest street-level footprint spaces, a deliberate scale choice that allows Birkenstock to move beyond a standard retail format and into an immersive brand environment. The interior is shaped by natural textures, cork details, earthen surfaces, and sculptural wood pieces by artist Naruki Takahashi, materials that directly echo the brand’s core identity around natural construction and footbed craft. The design invites visitors to slow down rather than rush through.

The Full Product Offer

The Osaka store carries Birkenstock’s complete product range across both floors: the core collection of sandals and clogs, the premium 1774 line developed for the fashion and luxury consumer, Care Essentials, and the brand’s naturally derived foot and body care range. The breadth of the offer positions the Osaka location as a flagship level destination rather than a focused concept store, reflecting how Birkenstock has increasingly used owned retail to communicate the full scope of its product philosophy.

Japan As A Priority Market

Shinsaibashi is one of Japan’s most trafficked retail corridors, attracting both domestic shoppers and international visitors, making it a high visibility entry point for Birkenstock in Osaka. The opening follows the brand’s ongoing DTC expansion across Asia, as Birkenstock continues to build physical retail in markets where its premium positioning and craft narrative resonate strongly with design conscious consumers.
