Kindthread, the premium healthcare apparel company behind Landau, White Cross, and Beyond Scrubs, has opened its first standalone retail location at Westfield Topanga in Los Angeles. The store is built around the idea that healthcare professionals deserve the same performance first product choice that athletes and active consumers have come to expect from modern apparel retail.
Performance Apparel, not just Scrubs
Kindthread’s three brands cover a range of functional needs specific to clinical environments: durability through long shifts, moisture management, ease of movement, and fit across diverse body types. The store’s multi brand format allows staff to match healthcare workers to the right performance profile across collections and price points, rather than defaulting to a single brand’s fit or fabrication approach.
The Store Model
The Westfield Topanga location runs with intentionally low floor density and trained staff guiding customers through the full assortment. Orders ship directly to the customer’s home from in store. The format mirrors the guided retail model Bonobos built in menswear, with fewer SKUs on the floor and more emphasis on fit, function, and seamless fulfillment.
The Bonobos Connection
Several members of the Kindthread leadership team, including CEO David Sasson, are former Bonobos executives.
David Sasson, CEO of Kindthread, said, “Healthcare apparel has been moving in a direction where professionals are expected to pay a premium for a single brand and call that progress. We think progress looks different. It looks like walking into a store, seeing real options across multiple collections and price points, and having someone help you find what actually works for your body and your budget.”
What it Signals
Demand for performance driven, style forward workwear from healthcare professionals has grown sharply over the past five years, a shift that has pushed brands to compete on fabric technology, ergonomic construction, and fit range rather than logo recognition alone. Kindthread’s entry into standalone retail at Westfield Topanga signals a conviction that the category is ready for a specialty retail model, one built on functional breadth rather than brand exclusivity.
