Nike, adidas, ASICS, New Balance and lululemon are among 84 companies and federations that signed a WFSGI open letter on November 4, committing to collective action on youth inactivity.
The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry coordinated the letter, which sets out four areas of work: initiatives that increase youth participation, sharing evidence-based practices, partnerships with public and private stakeholders, and advocacy for more closely aligned health, education, sport, trade and urban-planning policies.
The signatories also commit to reaching the least active adolescents and closing the participation gap between girls and boys.
The published signatory list spans footwear, clothing, equipment and sports technology. PUMA, Brooks, On, Salomon, Under Armour, Speedo and WHOOP are also listed.
The letter remains open for endorsement by manufacturers, brands, retailers, distributors, federations and other industry partners.
