BIRKENSTOCK has opened a new Berlin-Mitte store at Münzstraße 20, extending its retail presence in its home market with one of its largest European locations.
The 125-square-metre store opened on September 16 and uses Berlin's creative identity as the organising idea for the space. BIRKENSTOCK said the design combines exposed concrete, moss-covered elements, cork, jute and naturally formed wood, linking the interior to the materials associated with its footbed.
The opening is also structured around local creative collaborations. Yellow Nose Studio designed seating and accessories and is hosting a wooden-tag workshop. Analog Glass created hand-blown chandeliers shaped after the BIRKENSTOCK footbed, while Sound Metaphors is curating the opening soundtrack through a custom H.A.N.D. HIFI system.
For footwear shoppers, the assortment spans seasonal products and classic styles alongside selected 1774 designs and the Care Essentials collection. The project makes the store a useful marker of how BIRKENSTOCK is translating its manufacturing identity into destination retail, using product materials as part of the customer experience.
