What a day for skateboarding! Monster Energy proudly congratulates team rider Giovanni Vianna on earning second place at the 2025 Street League Skateboarding (SLS) World Tour stop in Paris, France, held at the legendary Stade Roland-Garros. The 24-year-old Brazilian battled the world’s elite on one of the most technical courses in SLS history, showcasing his trademark style, control, and consistency en route to the podium.

The event marked a monumental occasion: for the first time, the home of the French Open transformed into a street skating battleground. Tens of thousands witnessed a skateboard takeover of Roland-Garros’ clay-colored arena,  proof that the energy of SLS Paris 2025 has become a cultural milestone in action sports.

Street League Skateboarding: The Global Standard

Born in 2010 from the vision of Rob Dyrdek and backed since day one by Monster EnergyStreet League Skateboarding (SLS) has become the world’s most prestigious competition series for authentic street skateboarding. Now in its fifteenth year, the 2025 season features a global calendar of events, including stadium showcases in Miami and Paris, plus four new SLS Spot Takeovers that bring competitive energy to real street plazas around the world.

All momentum builds toward the ultimate test: the SLS Super Crown World Championship, set for São Paulo, Brazil, this December,  where only the year’s best will vie for gold on skateboarding’s grandest stage.

Defining the Paris Moment: Vianna’s Road to Second Place

Inside a packed Stade Roland-Garros, energy levels soared as the six-man final got underway. Riding his custom Primitive Skateboards deck and backed by his crew of sponsors,  including Monster EnergyVolcomIndependent Trucks, and Vans, Giovanni Vianna approached the event with momentum after a recent podium in the SLS Brasília Spot Takeover.

In the Line Section, Vianna lit the course on fire with a first run worthy of the highlight reel:

  • Frontside lipslide fakie the kink rail

  • Caballerial frontside noseslide fakie the Hubba

  • Backside Smith grinds the flat rail

  • Heelflip frontside boardslide across the Euro Gap rail

  • Capped with a gap to frontside noseblunt slide on the centerpiece

That sequence alone earned an 8.3, solidifying his early lead.

The Single Trick Section revealed where Vianna’s technical mastery truly shone. His second attempt,  a flawless Caballerial frontside bluntslide fakie down the tall handrail, scored 8.6 points. Two rounds later, he stomped a scarcely-seen frontside Half Cab backside Suski grind, adding another 8.8 to his tally.

On his final attempt, Vianna went all in with a Caballerial backward nosegrind fakie,  earning a Nine Club score of 9.1 and clinching 2nd place overall in the Paris final.

A Global Podium Among Legends

Joining Vianna on the podium was French powerhouse Vincent Milou, who claimed first in front of an ecstatic hometown crowd, while Japanese star Sora Shirai rounded out the top three. Also turning heads, Monster Energy legend Nyjah Huston,  already a six-time SLS Super Crown Champion, brought speed and precision, dropping one of the weekend’s highest line scores at 9.2 points before finishing fourth.

Huston’s second run showcased pure dominance: a gap-out kickflip backside lipslide to frontside 180 nosegrind revert combo, punctuated by a kickflip backside disaster on the quarterpipe. Despite a missed final trick, Huston amassed 27.2 total points, securing his slot in December’s SLS Super Crown World Championship.

Inside the Energy of Roland-Garros

The Paris event was more than a contest; it was a cultural awakening. Legendary skatepark architects California Skateparks engineered a layout that paid homage to the venue’s rich tennis history with terracotta tones and pedestaled transitions designed to echo the slopes of the clay court.

The result? A tennis-meets-skate aesthetic that married high-performance functionality with visual artistry. “Paris took the best of street skating and elevated it into performance art,” one commentator said after the finals. With over 10,000 fans filling the stands and millions streaming online, SLS Paris 2025 became a statement about skateboarding’s place among global sports.

What’s Next for Vianna and the Team

With his second-place finish, Giovanni Vianna officially qualifies for the Super Crown Championship in São Paulo, Brazil, returning as the reigning 2023 SLS Super Crown World Champion. For Vianna, whose story began in the streets of Santo André, this represents a full-circle moment in front of his home-country fans.

In his own words:

“Every run is about pushing limits and having fun,” Vianna said after the podium ceremony. “The crowd in Paris was unreal, and I can’t wait to bring that same energy home to Brazil in December.”
