Stuart Weitzman New York, now a lead brand in the Caleres portfolio following Tapestry’s divestiture, announced plans to open its first European flagship since the pandemic in Milan, a market where the brand previously operated a store on Via Sant’Andrea. The announcement came during Milan Fashion Week, where the brand presented its Fall Winter 2026 collection, “Dressed to the Nineties,” at the Museo del Novecento for its third consecutive season.

Back to Milan

Brand President Jonathan Lelonek confirmed the Milan flagship will open within three years. The return to Via Sant’Andrea, one of the city’s most established luxury retail corridors, positions Stuart Weitzman directly alongside competitors in a street anchored by major European and American luxury houses. The brand has maintained a Milan presence through a 650 square metre trade showroom at Piazza San Babila 5, opened in early 2024.

The Caleres Chapter

Stuart Weitzman officially completed its transition from Tapestry to Caleres in August 2025, joining a portfolio that includes Sam Edelman, Allen Edmonds, Naturalizer, and Vionic. The European flagship plan signals that Caleres is moving forward with physical retail investment for the brand rather than pulling back. It also marks a deliberate separation from the Tapestry era strategy, which had concentrated store growth in Asia and North America.

Fall Winter 2026 and the ’90s pivot

The Fall Winter 2026 collection, shown at the Sala Fontana on February 27, 2026, leaned into ’90s minimalism, a direction Lelonek described as “intrinsically tied to our brand DNA”. Global ambassador Ming Xi and supermodels Isabeli Fontana, Mariacarla Boscono, and Natasha Poly attended the presentation, staged in a loft set designed in collaboration with Italian furniture brand Acerbis. The FW26 range will be available in boutiques and on stuartweitzman.com from August 2026.

Conclusions

The choice of Milan for the brand’s European relaunch is deliberate. The city has seen consistent luxury retail investment from American footwear brands seeking European credibility and wholesale leverage. For Stuart Weitzman, reopening here closes a gap that has been visible since the pandemic era store closures and signals that the brand is back in active expansion mode under its new ownership.
