Under Armour US unveils dual-mode footwear

Under Armour has once again raised the bar in athletic footwear with the introduction of the UA SlipSpeed Mega, a shoe that seamlessly transitions between two distinct modes to cater to the dynamic needs of athletes.

This latest innovation is grounded in the company's proprietary UA Flow technology, which was also utilized in the signature Curry Flow line, known for its lightweight cushioning and exceptional traction.

“When we took a look at the market and spoke with athletes, what we continued to hear was the need for versatility — there was a clear demand for an innovative and versatile solution in the performance footwear category,” said Marcus Cheatham, Director of Product, Special Teams, Under Armour. “What we have created with UA SlipSpeed™ is a trainer that not only adjusts to fit your specific footwear needs any time of the day, but also still packs in some of our biggest performance innovations like UA Flow and UA Iso-Chill for optimum training.”

A sneaker specifically engineered for training with options for all-day wear, UA has reimagined the traditional training shoe. With its signature UA Flow and Iso-Chill technologies plus the BOA® Fit System and new “crushable” heel design, this one shoe is packed with some of UA’s biggest innovations to push the boundaries of performance.

The UA SlipSpeed Mega is designed to deliver unparalleled comfort and performance, featuring a supersized UA Flow midsole that cradles the foot for an almost weightless feel. The shoe boasts a range of key features, including a breathable upper with reinforced supportive material and engineered venting, ensuring freshness during intense workouts.

The BOA® Fit System provides a personalized fit with a 12-point lockdown system, allowing athletes to adjust the tightness with just one click. Additionally, the Iso-Chill padded interior offers heel-to-toe foam padding with cool-to-the-touch technology, keeping feet comfortable and cool.

For convenience, the shoes are machine washable, making maintenance as simple as running a regular laundry cycle. One of the most innovative aspects of the UA SlipSpeed Mega is its convertible heel, which allows athletes to switch from train mode to recover mode effortlessly.

This feature addresses the common issue of heel deterioration in regular shoes when athletes crush the back to slip them on quickly. Under Armour's heel folding technology ensures a comfortable underfoot experience without compromising the shoe's performance capabilities.

“When I received my first pair of UA SlipSpeed™, I was excited to have a shoe that could take me from a hard workout in the gym to running errands with the kids without the need to bring another pair of shoes along,” said Michael Phelps, World Champion Swimmer and Under Armour athlete in a statement. “I was able to share some of my feedback with the team after testing out the shoe for a while, and I am excited to see it come to market for athletes and exercise enthusiasts of all abilities to take advantage of.”

The design of the UA SlipSpeed Mega is not only functional but also stylish, with a run-trail inspired aesthetic and a sleeker, faster look thanks to a narrowed toe box. It is suitable for various activities, from warmups to game days, embodying the versatility that Under Armour strives for in its products
