Sneaker innovation enters the next dimension with a blend of iconic legacy and boundary-pushing technology.
Nike is once again redefining innovation in the world of sneakers, unveiling the new Air Max 95000 a 3D-printed model that pays direct homage to the legendary Air Max 95, now powering a new era of computational design and customizable footwear.
Debuted at ComplexCon in Las Vegas, the Air Max 95000 stands as both a love letter to Nike Air’s storied past and a forward-thinking leap into the future of sneaker creation.
Pioneering 3D Printing (Project Nectar & Zellerfeld Partnership)
The Air Max 95000 is the first sneaker born from Nike’s Project Nectar, a specially formulated 3D-printing process that delivers the durability and traction expected of sport footwear while opening new creative possibilities for design, fit, and self-expression.
Working with additive manufacturing leaders Zellerfeld, Nike has produced its second-ever 3D-printed silhouette, pushing the limits with their Gen3 printers capable of vivid multicolored, one-piece lattice constructions.
This silhouette features a seamless upper with distinctive grooves and a wraparound, wavy band acting both as an embellishment and a functional traction element. No glue or stitching is required the upper and midsole are made as one, thanks to a modular print architecture that also controls cushioning and support density across the shoe.
Cornelius Schmitt, CEO of Zellerfeld, said “What began as a profound idea to give creators more freedom has grown into something much bigger. Today, the brand we all grew up admiring is using our platform to design faster, test ideas instantly, experiment without limits and bring entirely new silhouettes to life. Nike has always defined the future of footwear, and Zellerfeld’s technology is helping unlock new possibilities in design.”
An Icon Reimagined for a New Generation
Channeling the bold DNA of the 1995 classic, the Air Max 95000 flaunts the iconic “Big Bubble” Max Air unit in the heel, a smaller Max Air pod in the forefoot, and a contoured silhouette with muscular lines.
The Black/Volt colorway recalling the signature neon of the Air Max 95 will be the debut release, priced at $250. The entire outsole can be 3D printed in just ten minutes, but the shoe’s full assembly takes nearly two days, underscoring the craftsmanship and tech prowess behind each pair.
Brittany Shelton, VP, North America Brand Management at Nike, said: “Nike Air has always been about pushing boundaries and inspiring the next generation. The Air Max 95000 brings that inspiration to life through innovation that delivers creativity and opportunities for self-expression.”
Brittany Shelton continued, “We never would have been able to create this silhouette using traditional methods, and this sculptural, contoured design and futuristic application of Air is only the beginning of a multi-year journey with Zellerfeld and what we see as unlimited possibility in a new era of 3D-printed footwear.”
A Platform for the Future
The 95000 is Nike’s clearest signal yet that 3D printing will play a vital role not just in innovation samples but in mainstream, commercial-ready sneaker launches. Project Nectar’s blend of durability, bespoke lattice structures, and the potential for future user customization marks a huge leap for both performance and lifestyle shoes. Its single-material assembly could simplify end-of-life recycling and open doors to new sustainability goals.
As Zellerfeld’s scalable manufacturing meets Nike’s design legacy, more colorways and personalization could arrive soon an exciting glimpse at how sneaker culture might evolve through additive manufacturing.
