Luxury meets legacy in the world’s rarest Nike sneakers.

For sneaker collectors and auction enthusiasts alike, Nike’s history of record-breaking shoes reveals how craftsmanship, celebrity legacy, and pop culture continue to turn footwear into million-dollar art pieces. From Michael Jordan’s game-worn relics to solid gold designs, these are the most expensive Nike shoes ever made and sold in history.

1. The Dynasty Collection  ($8 Million)

The crown jewel of Nike auctions, The Dynasty Collection features six individual Air Jordan sneakers worn by Michael Jordan during each of his NBA championship-winning games with the Chicago Bulls. Sold by Sotheby’s in 2024 for $8 million, this set shattered all previous footwear records. Each shoe from the Air Jordan 6 through the Air Jordan 14  tells the story of Jordan’s historic career and the global rise of sneaker culture.

2. Air Jordan 13 “The Last Dance”  ($2.2 Million)

The Air Jordan XIII, famously worn by Michael Jordan during Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals, set a Guinness World Record as the most expensive game-worn sneakers ever sold. As reported by Guinness World Records and Sotheby’s, the pair fetched $2.2 million in 2023. Often dubbed “The Last Dance Shoes,” they capture the closing chapter of Jordan’s championship legacy a fusion of athletic achievement and collector prestige.

3. Solid Gold OVO x Air Jordan 10  ($2.1 Million)

Commissioned for Drake and crafted by artist Matthew Senna, the Solid Gold OVO x Air Jordan 10 is a one-of-one masterpiece valued at around $2.1 million. Forged entirely from 24K gold, the sneakers weigh nearly 100 pounds per pair, making them more sculpture than shoe. Their creation blurred the line between streetwear and fine art, marking a turning point for luxury sneaker design.

4. Nike Air Yeezy 1 “Prototype”  ($1.8 Million)

Before Kanye West’s partnership with Adidas, he collaborated with Nike to create the first Nike Air Yeezy line. The Air Yeezy 1 Prototype worn during West’s 2008 Grammy performance sold for $1.8 million in 2021, making it the first sneaker ever to surpass the $1 million mark. This sale, brokered through Sotheby’s, elevated sneakers from collectibles to cultural assets and bridged the worlds of design and celebrity influence.

5. Nike Air Ship ($1.47 Million)

As CNN reported, the Nike Air Ship was Michael Jordan’s first-ever shoe worn with the Chicago Bulls in 1984, preceding the Air Jordan line. In 2021, a signed game-worn pair sold at Sotheby’s for $1.47 million, setting a short-lived auction record before being surpassed by later Jordans. The Air Ship remains a symbol of Nike’s early innovation and the foundation of modern sneaker marketing.

6. Nike Waffle Racing Flat “Moon Shoe”  ($437,500)

Designed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman for the 1972 Olympic Trials, the iconic “Moon Shoe” was one of Nike’s first handmade competitive models. In 2019, a rare unworn pair sold at Sotheby’s for $437,500, purchased by collector Miles Nadal. The shoes feature a distinctive waffle sole, molded from a household waffle iron, an experiment that redefined running shoe traction and changed the design landscape forever.

Nike’s Billion-Dollar Footprint

From Jordan’s championship moments to Kanye West’s design revolution and Drake’s gilded statement, Nike’s storytelling has pushed sneakers beyond sport. Each multimillion-dollar pair is more than footwear; it’s a cultural milestone connecting innovation, legacy, and artistry.

As Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s Head of Streetwear and Modern Collectibles, shared:
“These record-breaking results show that sneaker collecting is no longer a niche; it’s global, and it continues to set new benchmarks for modern luxury and cultural value.”
