Nike is bringing back The Opening, its invite only showcase for elite U.S. high school football players, with a 2026 multi city tour leading up to the national Finals at its Oregon campus. After a seven year pause, the relaunch ties one of prep football’s most influential events to today’s NIL era and content heavy recruiting landscape.
A comeback for a defining camp
First introduced in 2011, The Opening quickly became one of the most closely watched stages for top high school talent in the United States. The 2026 return restores a central proving ground for prospects, positioning Nike once again at the heart of early-career football narratives and scouting conversations.
National tour and key dates
The Opening kicks off in Miami on January 16 ahead of the College Football Playoff National Championship, then moves through a series of NFL venues across the country. Regional events are scheduled in Los Angeles on February 22, Indianapolis on March 1, Atlanta on March 8, New Orleans on March 22, New York City on April 12, and Dallas on May 24, giving Nike a consistent presence in core football markets across the first half of the year.
Testing, competition, and exposure
Each regional stop brings together top local high school players for standardized testing, including the 40 yard dash, 20 yard shuttle, and vertical jump, along with position drills, one on ones, and seven on seven matchups. Nike is pairing those sessions with structured exposure: major national recruiting outlets will attend, performance data and video will be shared with coaching staffs at all Power Four programs, and athletes can access their film through Hudl.
Finals in Oregon and NIL focus
From the regional pool, the top 120 athletes will receive invitations to The Opening Finals at Nike’s Philip H. Knight Campus in Beaverton, Oregon, a three day event taking place from June 24–26. The Finals incorporate coaching, competition, and education into the on field testing, with Nike explicitly highlighting the opportunity for participants to represent their region and potentially secure an NIL deal with the brand.
Legacy and athlete pipeline
Since its inception, The Opening has built a notable alumni list: 428 former participants have been drafted into the NFL, including 95 first round selections such as Saquon Barkley, Ja’Marr Chase, Derrick Henry, and Patrick Surtain II. The 2026 relaunch focuses on top recruits from the class of 2027 and standout underclassmen, all competing free of charge in the latest Nike football cleats, gloves, tops, and shorts, while creators Deestroying and AJ Greene join the tour to help turn on-field performances into shareable stories.
