The new era of NBA 2KL places entertainment and inclusivity and storytelling at its heart as it welcomes fans and NBA talent and creators to compete and connect like never before.

New Vision

NBA Take-Two Media (NBAT2), a partnership between the NBA and Take-Two Interactive, has unleashed the newly reimagined NBA 2K League (2KL) a bold entertainment property where gaming and culture merge.

No longer a traditional eSports league, the 2KL merges on-court and off-court experiences into an entertainment universe featuring unpredictable competitions, original content, and innovative fan engagement.

CEO Andrew Perlmutter said in a press release, “With the new 2KL, we’re building an entirely new type of entertainment universe that blends competition with content, filling it with wild, wacky, unpredictable and emotionally resonant moments.”

Jesser Leads as Honorary Commissioner

Influential creator Jesser, known for rallying over 35 million subscribers with his NBA 2K videos and collaborations, headlines as the league’s Honorary Commissioner.

Joining Jesser is a celebrity advisory board featuring Olympic champ Suni Lee and MMA star Demetrius Johnson who collectively guide player drafts, issue rulings, and add surprise elements that keep teams and viewers on their toes.

The league puts content creators and athletes at the center, forging a direct connection with audiences and expanding beyond the gamer elite.

Competition Meets Culture (Open Ladder and Storytelling)

Six teams Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards kick off the season, each paired with NBA players, digital creators like Zach 2K and BEARDABEAST, and select fans who excel in 2K gameplay or rise through the new “Next Fan Up” open ladder, beginning November 16.

MyPLAYER Mayhem, a competitive creator-led YouTube series, brings out player personalities and community rivalries, with the season culminating in streamed Twitch tournaments where fans witness drama on and off the (virtual) court.

Lowering Barriers, Raising Impact

The newly minted 2KL emphasizes creative formats, reality-style content, and a celebration of the personalities behind the gamers.

Any fan regardless of skill can register, choose an NBA team, and compete for official team representation in hybrid online events and social media challenges.

This model opens new opportunities for brand partnerships, audience expansion, and a blending of cultural moments, basketball lifestyle, and digital entertainment.

A New Chapter of NBA 2K Culture

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver celebrates this relaunch as a step forward in growing engagement for the next generation of players, creators, and fans.

The focus is no longer just on serious competitive gaming but on unpredictable, story-rich experiences that showcase the joy, drama, and human side of basketball and eSports.

As the league moves into this new open-access era, every game is about connection, creativity, and capturing the essence of a worldwide basketball community.
