Nike is turning back the clock and looking ahead, all at once, with the triumphant return of the Air Superfly. First introduced a quarter of a century ago as a low-profile, minimalist racing trainer, the Air Superfly is making its comeback in 2025, completely reimagined for the next generation of athletes and sneaker enthusiasts, particularly women.

The Air Superfly has always been synonymous with racing heritage and technical prowess, and this latest version beautifully blends retro inspiration with advanced comfort and versatility. The announcement, unveiled by Nike athlete Sha’Carri Richardson and showcased during SNKRS Showcase 2025, signals a new era where style, performance, and accessibility walk hand-in-hand.

“Now, 25 years later, it feels like the perfect time to reintroduce the Air Superfly to a new generation, letting this distinctive silhouette take on a new era,” says Ellen Lekas, Expert, Women’s Footwear Product Management. “Racing trainers like this one are low to the ground, more minimalist, lightweight and really sleek — and we brought back this model specifically because it offers an authentic Nike perspective that is progressive, accessible and wearable, striking a perfect balance that’s so right for women today.”

Design Innovations: Past Principles, Future Function

The refreshed Air Superfly carries forward signatures that made the original standout, but with material and technical updates that rise to today’s standards. Its hallmark streamlined, low-profile fit now hugs the foot for unrivaled, all-day comfort.

Unlike most sneakers, the Air Superfly features a unique reverse seam construction that eliminates the traditional sock liner, producing a minimal, deconstructed sensation perfect for everyday movement. Perforated medial and lateral quarter panels stay true to the original, optimizing breathability and keeping the shoe lightweight for athletic or lifestyle wear.

Distinctive green outsole dots are more than just a nod to the era—they recall the exact placement of track spikes from early 2000s performance models, linking today’s style with deep Nike running roots.

Sneaker Tech: Comfort Meets Durability

Underfoot, a hidden Nike Air unit and plush Cushlon foam midsole ensure that step-in comfort is central to the new Superfly experience. The upper combines premium leather and synthetic suede for a sophisticated finish, and the launch’s metallic silver colorway echoes the silver anthracite palette of the iconic first model.

“The most exciting part of bringing the Air Superfly back to life was landing on the colors and materials that the shoe is going to take on,” shares Thomasin Hummerstone, Director, Footwear Product Creation, Women’s Sportswear. “This shoe has an amazing chameleon-like quality that, depending on how you color and materialize it, can take on so many different personalities. That begins with the metallic silver launch colorway, which is a modern evolution of the silver anthracite look from the original design.”

Style for Today’s Women: Versatile Looks, Global Influence

Designed with today’s trendsetters in mind, the Air Superfly emerged on the global stage worn by athletes and influencers, from track superstars to fashion-forward creators. Its retro-futuristic silhouette straddles the line between performance and leisure, making it the go-to choice for urban exploration or a morning run.

The Air Superfly’s reintroduction coincides with the debut of Air Max Muse, another boundary-pushing women’s sneaker, with both styles sharing the shimmering metallic silver palette and Nike’s unwavering commitment to innovation.
