adidas Originals has consistently drawn from culture as a source of creativity, design, and direction. In Puerto Rico, that source became a stage. To mark five years of collaboration with global superstar Bad Bunny, the brand orchestrated a multi-sensory cultural takeover, bringing sport, identity, and storytelling together with one of the most influential creative voices in the world.
Timed to Bad Bunny’s record-breaking “No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí” residency at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, the multi-day celebration unfolded across streets, museums, and iconic spaces. What began with the adidas Originals x Bad Bunny Gazelle City Series, a sneaker collection that serves as a love letter to the island that shaped him, grew into a living tribute, spanning from New York’s golden-ticket locker activation at Grand Central Station on July 3rd to the highly anticipated Puerto Rico Archive, open through August 17th.
Formula 1 Roars into Puerto Rico
The weekend kicked off with a moment never-before-seen on the island: a historic Formula 1 demo run on the streets of San Juan. For the first time, an F1 car not only visited Puerto Rico but raced through its streets. Over 12,000 spectators lined the historic Puente Dos Hermanos to witness Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team driver Esteban Gutiérrez deliver donuts, burnouts, and celebratory laps, with Bad Bunny himself joining the team as an honorary member.
adidas and Mercedes-Benz used the moment to unveil a pop-up exhibit outside the Coliseo, showcasing authentic race gear, gloves, boots, and memorabilia, alongside a teaser for their upcoming AdiRacer GT collaboration between adidas Originals, Bad Bunny, and Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. That night, Benito turned his Saturday concert into a product launch moment, debuting the unreleased design live on stage to deafening applause.
A Taste of Home
Before the celebrations shifted into high gear, adidas hosted a homecoming dinner at Cocina al Fondo, featuring San Juan culinary students as hosts. The menu, crafted by Natalia Vallejo, Puerto Rico’s first James Beard Award winner, was rooted in tradition and storytelling, underscoring the weekend’s theme of honoring one’s roots while embracing global influence.
Another standout dinner took place at the legendary La Factoría, ranked among the world’s top cocktail bars. In collaboration with Oriundo, a Puerto Rican culinary collective, the menu highlighted native ingredients sourced from the island’s richly diverse ecosystems.
The Archive: Puerto Rico Para El Mundo
The heart of the celebration was the debut of The Archive: Puerto Rico Para El Mundo at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico. This landmark exhibition showcased five years of adidas Originals x Bad Bunny collaborations, featuring 150 products, over 115 of which had never been seen by the public. Visitors got an intimate look at the design evolution, from early sketches to milestone pieces.
Selected from a pool of 3,000 applicants, Natalia Krystel and Xaavier Orlando Reyes served as on-site hosts through adidas’s special Resident Job program, guiding guests through the archive.
The live panel that opened the exhibition featured Willy Chavarria, adidas Originals’ Rafael Mayorga and Valentina Benitez Castellanos, and adidas historian Sandra Trapp. Together, they unpacked the creative philosophy driving the collaboration, from concept to cultural phenomenon, touching on iconic moments like the custom-branded airplane, the floral art installation at Coachella, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float, and now, the island’s first F1 demo run.
Rare Stories, Rare Sneakers
After the panel, Sandra Trapp led a white-glove tour that revealed:
- The exact shoes worn by Bad Bunny in the Messi campaign
- A custom F1 helmet
- The 50,000-flower cube replica from Coachella
- The Pink Forum Easter egg kit
- A gifted lunchbox from Bad Bunny’s branded airplane
- The multicolor cube housing Forum PWR Catch and Throw
- Custom cowboy boots for the Response CL Paso Fino
The exhibit also previewed a new Vega Baja colorway from the Gazelle City Series, with all four silhouettes displayed together for the first time.
“The Archive: Puerto Rico Para El Mundo. La Historia de Una Collab” runs through Sunday, August 17, 2025, during regular museum hours.
Closing on a Global Stage
The weekend culminated in Bad Bunny’s Coliseo residency, with adidas Originals capping the experience with a surprise on-stage appearance by Willy Chavarria. The moment fused sneaker culture, high fashion, motorsport, and Puerto Rican identity into one statement: Puerto Rico is not only a source of inspiration but a global touchpoint for culture, design, and innovation.
Through this ambitious celebration, spanning Formula 1, fine dining, archival storytelling, and live performance, adidas Originals reinforced its belief in the power of purposeful collaboration and its ability to honor heritage while shaping the future.
