HOKA Mafate 5 combines innovation cushioning and durability to help ultra-runners conquer every trail.
HOKA, a division of Deckers Brands, has announced the launch of the Mafate 5—the newest evolution in the brand’s storied trail-running series. Engineered for long-haul endurance and challenging conditions, the Mafate 5 aims to give ultra-runners and trail enthusiasts the confidence, adaptability, and comfort necessary for their toughest adventures. The shoe is available now at HOKA.com and at authorized dealers worldwide.
Breakthrough Rocker Integrity Technology
At the core of the new Mafate 5 lies the all-new Rocker Integrity Technology, a unique advancement designed to maintain the shoe’s signature rocker shape mile after mile. The technology uses a lightweight, flexible TPU plate—delivering snap with every stride. Sandwiched between a firmer SCF EVA layer directly underfoot and a softer CMEVA foam base, this system creates a suspended ride feel that sets a new standard for dual-density cushioning and responsiveness.
This innovative midsole design enables the Mafate 5 to absorb uneven terrain and adapt seamlessly to the trail, all while maintaining a connected, lively toe-off and a stable foot strike. Combined with a Vibram Megagrip outsole featuring Traction Lug technology, runners can count on secure grip on all surfaces—from muddy switchbacks to rocky descents.
Trail-Ready Upper and New Gaiter Integration
The Mafate 5 is built for the ultra distances with a new 360-degree protective upper, constructed of flow-molded TPU for durability and structure. A creative touch nods to the UTMB Mont-Blanc with a course map etched into the design—paying homage to the world’s most legendary mountain race.
In an exciting first for HOKA, the Mafate 5 comes with an integrated ankle gaiter system (sold separately), designed to shield runners from debris and keep them moving without interruption, even in the harshest trail conditions.
Built for Ultra Performance
The Mafate 5 boasts an 8mm heel-to-toe drop and comes in at 10.1 oz (285g) for women’s size 8 and 11.7 oz (332.3g) for men’s size 10, pairing long-distance cushioning with a responsive, adaptable ride. The MSRP is $185.
Celebrating the Launch: Nationwide Strava Challenge
To mark the arrival of the Mafate 5 and draw inspiration from the UTMB Mont-Blanc, HOKA is inviting trail athletes across the country to join a nationwide Strava challenge. From August 8 through September 12, participants who run the full 109.6-mile (176.4 km) distance of the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc will earn a digital badge and be entered to win a grand prize: entry and an all-expenses-paid trip to next year’s UTMB Mont-Blanc or a UTMB World Series race, alongside a Mafate 5 shoe and gear pack. Five additional winners will receive a Mafate 5 and a full set of HOKA trail apparel.
