The Midwest retailer will anchor North Oklahoma City’s new mixed-use development with its signature blend of expert service family attractions and an unmatched selection.

SCHEELS answered months of local buzz, confirming it will open a second Oklahoma location in north Oklahoma City in spring 2028. The employee-owned sporting goods giant unveiled plans for a 300,000+ square-foot store set in a major new mixed-use development—bringing over 500 jobs, high-profile attractions, and the promise to redefine what retail can be for Oklahoma families.

“We Could Not Be More Excited”: SCHEELS’ Community Pledge

As a leader in experiential retail, SCHEELS’ move adds fresh energy to the fast-growing Oklahoma City market. Matt Hanson, CEO of SCHEELS said, “On behalf of more than 4,000+ employee-owners, we could not be more excited to bring a second SCHEELS to Oklahoma. We look forward to collaborating with city leadership, Hogan Property Company, and Stellar Development, and becoming a meaningful part of the OKC community – supporting local causes, creating new career opportunities, and delivering a best-in-class experience to our customers. Our goal is simple: to be the best retailer in the eyes of our customers, associates and business partners.”

Located near Kilpatrick Turnpike and NW 150th on the west side of Highway 74/Portland Avenue, the new OKC store will offer more than just shopping. With 80+ specialty shops under one roof, SCHEELS promises unrivaled variety across sporting goods, outdoor equipment, apparel, and footwear—stocking both must-have brands like Nike, exclusive favorites including UNRL, Vuori, Mizzen+Main, Spanx, UGG, and even a Toyland packed with LEGOs.

Job Growth and Destination Retail

Beyond top-tier product selection and expert staff—each trained through SCHEELS University in their category—the Oklahoma City store brings ambitious new entertainment experiences for families and visitors:

  • A massive Ferris Wheel right in store

  • 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium with over 600 fish

  • Candy shop, wildlife mountain, arcade games, and a diverse restaurant

  • Premier services including master golf fittings, HitTrax baseball/softball, certified archery tuning, and bike maintenance by trained mechanics

The project will create more than 500 new jobs and serve as a significant boost to the local economy. Governor Kevin Stitt said, “Oklahoma is open for business, and we’re thrilled to welcome SCHEELS to its new home in Oklahoma City. This world-class development is another sign that Oklahoma is one of the most business-friendly states in the country. We’re seeing incredible job growth, record capital investment, and companies choosing Oklahoma because they know we get the government out of the way and let businesses thrive.”

Designed to Be a Community Anchor

Local business and civic leaders believe SCHEELS will become a regional draw. Christy Gillenwater, President and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber said, “SCHEELS will be a tremendous addition to Oklahoma City, bringing a unique retail and entertainment experience that will attract visitors from across the region… SCHEELS will strengthen our city’s reputation as a sports and fitness destination, help drive additional development and create new reasons for families to spend time and money in our community.”

With this new flagship, opening in 2028, SCHEELS will mark its 38th location nationwide—further cementing its roots and community-first traditions in Oklahoma.
