RG Barry moves deeper into premium indoor outdoor comfort with two powerhouse heritage brands.

A Strategic Step in Comfort Footwear

RG Barry Brands (RGB), parent company of Dearfoams and other comfort-focused labels, has reached an agreement in principle to acquire substantially all of the assets of Green Market Services Co. Inc. (GMS).

This proposed deal includes GMS’ licensed slipper businesses for Clarks and Timberland. It also covers its existing private label programs and the GMS team that supports those brands.

If finalized, the acquisition will significantly strengthen RGB’s position in the premium slipper market. It will broaden its reach with consumers who want comfort that works both inside and outside the home.

Why Clarks and Timberland Fit RGB’s Portfolio

Clarks and Timberland each bring distinct, highly recognizable identities that complement RGB’s existing brands:

  • Clarks: Known for iconic comfort and heritage craftsmanship, Clarks aligns naturally with the wellness trend and demand for structured underfoot support with indoor/outdoor versatility.

  • Timberland: With strong roots in outdoor footwear, Timberland attracts consumers who value durability, comfort and style for all-weather, all-occasion wear a perfect match for the growing indoor/outdoor living lifestyle.

Together, the brands give RGB authentic category leadership in premium slippers and house shoes that can also handle quick trips outside.

Leadership’s Take on the Opportunity

“This proposed transaction marks a strategic step forward for RG Barry Brands,” said Bob Mullaney, President and Chief Executive Officer of RG Barry Brands.

“Clarks and Timberland are heritage brands with deeply loyal followings, much like Dearfoams. We see a meaningful opportunity to expand our presence in the premium slipper category. The RGB Platform is built to integrate and scale brands. It does so with disciplined stewardship. It also focuses on comfort innovation and broader market reach. Grounded in the RGB Way – consumer-focused, data-driven, digital-centric, and earth-first – we’re uniquely positioned. We intend to lead Clarks and Timberland into the next chapter of their slipper journey. We aim to serve today’s consumer and strengthen long-term brand value.” Bob Mullaney added.

Lee Smith, President of Columbus Product Group and a 20-year veteran of RG Barry Brands, will oversee both brands and lead the GMS integration.

“With RGB’s proven expertise in comfort, product development, and digital commerce, assuming the transaction is completed, we’re well equipped to elevate both Clarks and Timberland. Particularly from an e-commerce standpoint, the global licenses offer a powerful opportunity. They will strengthen overall brand awareness and drive meaningful growth across the RGB portfolio,” Smith shared.

From the seller’s side, Tom Connelly, Chief Executive Officer of Green Market Services, added: “I’m incredibly proud of what our team has built at Green Market over the years. RG Barry is the right home for these brands – one that brings deep category expertise and a clear vision for their future.”

Bryant Park Showroom Debut at FFANY

As the deal moves through customary approvals, Clarks and Timberland slipper collections will already be working alongside RGB’s portfolio.

They are set to be showcased in the new RG Barry Brands showroom overlooking Bryant Park at 8 West 40th Street in New York City.

This will be alongside Dearfoams, Baggallini and Columbus Product Group during FFANY Market Week appointments beginning December 2.

This gives retail partners an immediate view of how the expanded slipper portfolio fits together in one cohesive, comfort-driven story.

What Retailers Can Expect Going Forward

Should the transaction close, RGB has outlined several priorities for partners:

  • Continuity: The GMS team supporting Clarks and Timberland will transition to RGB, helping ensure consistent communication and service.

  • Digital Lift: RGB will apply its digital commerce capabilities from content and performance marketing to marketplace management to boost online visibility, conversion and global reach.

  • Long-Term Investment: The company plans to focus on premium comfort, elevated design, innovation and earth-first product development across the Clarks and Timberland slipper programs.

With this move, RG Barry Brands positions itself as a central player in the evolving comfort landscape. Slippers are no longer just for home, but an essential part of everyday, everywhere style.
