Converse and Vaquera Reinvent the Chuck Taylor with Bold Slouch Wedge Designs

For this first-ever partnership between Nike, and Vaquera, the iconic Converse Chuck Taylor All Star is completely reborn.

The collaborative XXXHi Slouch Wedge and XHi Slouch Wedge exchange familiar laces for supersized, slouched uppers and a hidden wedge sole, exaggerating proportion and movement for a look that is both familiar and exciting.

“We love to take something well-known like the Chuck and make it feel new,” said Bryn Taubensee, co-founder, Vaquera. “We kept a lot of the iconic elements of the Chuck but removed the laces and supersized the upper. The effect is something familiar while at the same time unknown and exciting”.​

Unveiled during Vaquera’s fall 2025 ready-to-wear presentation, the two silhouettes showcase textile-heavy designs wrapped in waxed canvas that softens and patinas with wear.

The XXXHi stretches above the knee, while the XHi falls just below, staying unmistakably Vaquera oversized, baggy, and adaptable for individual styling.​

Design Meets Meaning (Colliding Codes)

Collaborative creativity between Converse and Vaquera transcends basic footwear. The look emphasizes materiality, construction, and subversive design reflecting Vaquera’s irreverent, DIY sensibility at every turn.

Signature Converse pinstripes, patches and canvas are reinterpreted, turning homage into creative contradiction, and storytelling into wearable “fashion fan fiction.”

The result feels equal parts homage, parody, satire, and sincerity just as Patric DiCaprio, co-founder, Vaquera describes: “Romance is a major brand code at Vaquera. We covered the Dn8 with kiss marks. The effect is something playful and romantic while maintaining Nike’s high standard of functionality”.​

What’s Next (Expanding the Vaquera Vision)

This release marks only the beginning of the Nike, and Vaquera partnership. Next up, Vaquera will put its own romantic twist on the Nike Air Max Dn8, utilizing a playful motif of layered kiss marks over Dynamic Air technology.​

Since its beginnings as a cult experiment on the Paris Fashion Week calendar, Vaquera supported by Dover Street Market’s brand development arm has thrived by blending social commentary, playful excess, and serious skill.
